Ciara Dennenhy

Summary

The Mavericks water polo squad (www.maverickswaterpolo.ca) is gaining momentum and popularity with youth of Etobicoke. The team practices out of the Etobicoke Olympium. Ciara has been playing for the past 2 years and her team placed 1st at the Provincials and 3rd at the Nationals this year. This is the first time in ten years that a Maverick’s women’s team has been on the podium at the respective tournaments. As previously mentioned, Ciara has only played water polo for the past two years and has won team awards for most improved and one for leadership.

Ciara is a student at John English Middle School in south Etobicoke. She has participated in many school sports which include football, basketball, cross country and volleyball. Along with participating in these sports she is a member of the Eco school committee, ensuring that John English and surrounding community are clean and eco-friendly.

Ciara also sings in the Mimico children’s choir and has been a member for 8 years. Ciara’s instructor, Jennifer Robinson entered her into the Davenport singing festival, where she placed third. Ciara’s singing prowess has also been showcased at two musicial productions at John English, School The Lion King and Once on this Island Junior.

Ciara is absolutely thrilled to be named Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame athlete of the month. She goes on to say that she enjoys trying new sports and even quoted Albert Einstein, saying “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.”

Joanne Noble chair of the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame met with Ciara and this is what she had to say about Ciara. Ciara is a dedicated athlete who trains very hard. Water Polo is physically demanding and her commitment to the sport and th her team is undeniable. She has a great outlook and attitude and clearly enjoys what she does.”
