Lauren Brazel

Lauren Brazel has dedicated more than 11years to playing competitive hockey for the Dolphin organization. Over the years she has won playoff titles, a Lower Lakes Female Hockey League (LLFHL) title, and even a provincial bronze medal.

 

She has made friends, memories and learned many crucial lessons, including; team work, social skills, and how to maintain a reputation as a top student at Father John Redmond High School. She is a leader both on the ice and in the classroom, and is recognized by Father John Redmond high school as a high honour student. Her passion for sports and her work ethic has led her to become a defensive force to reckon with in school and on teams. Lauren is an executive member of Key Club, a team dedicated to raising money for several charities over the course of the school year. This includes; St. Vincent De Paul’s women’s shelter and families in need, Dr. Simone’s food and candy drive, and even families within the community who need support. Furthermore, Lauren is a proud member of Redmond’s “Relay for Life” team, where she organizes an event to raise money for cancer research.

 

She is grateful for all the opportunities sports has provided for her, and hopes to continue her athletic journey as she departs for university. Lauren plans on attending McMaster University, where she will study Life Science, with intention to specialize in neuroscience.

Amelia Gardiner

Amelia Gardiner is a dedicated student currently enrolled at Father John Redmond Catholic Secondary School. Her journey with hockey began at the age of five, and since then, she has thrived in the sport, particularly with the Etobicoke Dolphins where she has played rep hockey. This experience has not only honed her skills but has also enriched her life with lasting friendships and a strong work ethic.

 

Amelia’s passion for sports extends beyond hockey. Throughout her four years at Redmond, she has actively participated in various sports including softball, ultimate frisbee, basketball, flag football, and volleyball, contributing vibrantly to the school’s athletic community.

 

A notable highlight of her high school career was representing Redmond at OFSAA as a member of the girls’ hockey team, an achievement that underscored her commitment and skill in the sport.

 

Looking ahead, Amelia is eagerly anticipating her next academic chapter at Dalhousie University, where she plans to pursue Commerce. Her enthusiasm for learning and her diverse interests in sports exemplify her proactive approach to both academics and extracurricular activities.

Madison Weins

Madison Weins is a graduating grade 12 student at Lakeshore Collegiate Institute. As a student council and prom committee member, she has been playing her role in being a determined student-athlete.

 

Being an honour student and a part of the advanced placement program has led her into her dream field of psychology which she will pursue at Guelph University. Her passion for cheerleading started when she was 7 years old and since then has overcome numerous obstacles to reach the goals she has achieved today. After doing gymnastics she had her first tryout at PCT in 2020, which was her dream come true.

 

Her Nana has been her number one supporter and made it possible for her, driving her to practice two nights a week and to ever y competition. Most recently her team won nationals in Niagara Falls and is next headed to Florida to compete at a world-level competition. Maddy’s next milestone will be getting on the Guelph cheerleading team she has been training for.

Shobia Sivakumaran

Shobia Sivakumaran is an honours student, athlete and artist. She has engaged in various extracurricular activities in her high school career, giving back to the community while maintaining a 90 percent average.

 

Shobia is a passionate long distance runner. She got involved with both cross country and track in field in grade three, and has been running consistently ever since. She is involved with the Asian Heritage Club and Hearts in Handwriting club at her school, Michael Power Saint Joseph.

 

Outside of school, Shobia spends much of her time volunteering for a local retirement home. In her free time, Shobia spends a lot of time working on creative endeavours such as drawing or writing. Shobia plans to attend the University of Guelph for Biomedical Toxicology in the fall of 2024.

Jenna Chateau

As a member of the Etobicoke Community, Jenna Chateau started her basketball career with the Etobicoke Basketball Association, competing for the Etobicoke Thunder for eight years, winning team MVP in her final season with the program. Jenna graduated from Father John Redmond in 2023 as an academic scholar.

 

In her time at the school, she accumulated several awards including the Academics and Athletics award, Track and Field MVP, after winning a silver and bronze medal in the 800m and 1500m respectively, and the Redmond Prep girls basketball MVP award. During her three years at Father John Redmond, she was a proud member of the Redmond Prep OSBA program, and accumulated the most points, assists, and steals during the course of the season in her final year on the team.

 

In pursuit of a post-secondary basketball opportunity, she played her final year of high school at Orangeville Prep. During her time there, she connected with head coach Scott Munro of the Saint Mary’s Huskies women’s basketball program and has since committed to the back-to-back AUS champions as a scholarship athlete.

Jack Kuttner Zubac

Jack Kuttner Zubac is a dedicated student-athlete who has always showcased their leadership and talents across numerous sports teams.

 

He has been a member of Father Redmond’s Senior Boys Basketball, Volleyball and Co-ed Volleyball teams in grades 11 and 12 as well as the new Ultimate Frisbee team this year.

 

Outside of school, he has also played on his Etobicoke Thunder Rep basketball team for the past seven years.

Aya Kinsey

Aya Kinsey is a Grade 12 student-athlete at Father John Redmond, playing hockey and numerous other sports. As the only female goalie with the AA Mississauga North Stars hockey team for seven years, she earned recognition for her dedication through the “Longstanding Service Award.”

 

Aya enjoys playing on her school varsity badminton, softball, ultimate frisbee, track and field, basketball, and flag football, leading her team to multiple city championships. Most recently, she was awarded team MVP for the Varsity Girl’s Hockey team at OFSAAs.

 

She also holds leader-ship roles as co-head of the athletic council and the female athletic representative for the student council, advocating for inclusivity and fairness in sports.

Alvin Hasa

Alvin Hasa, a Grade 12 student at Michael Power Saint Joseph High School, is a standout in both academics and athletics.

 

His journey to athletic prominence began in 2017 when he joined the Etobicoke Youth Soccer Club, excelling as a striker, and later pursuing Football, where he not only earned a starting position but also captained his team to the TDCAA championship game. His stellar performance garnered recognition from the Football Toronto Association, as well as an offer to play for the York University Lions.

 

Alvin’s dedication and leadership are evident on and off the field as he continues to pursue excellence and inspire others with his determination and resilience.

Okela Sylvester

Okela Sylvester may well be the most modest winner of an Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame High School Scholarship. Although a three-sport star at Kipling Collegiate, she always deflected the limelight that should shine on her and her two Athlete of the Year awards onto her teammates and classmates. In her own journey and progression as an athlete, she states that it has never been about the wins and losses, but more about the skill development she has learned in each match. Away from the court, she applies this same all-for-one approach to her efforts in the community.

Shanique Peart

Shanique Peart has demonstrated what it takes to be a model student and a talented athlete with a passion for dance. Currently, she is working towards her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance at York University. Over the course of her four years at West Humber Collegiate Institute, she has had the opportunity to take part in a variety of teams such as track and field, wrestling, basketball, and soccer, along with the honor of being the team captain of the WHCI Girl’s Wrestling, Basketball, and Soccer teams. She has achieved awards in all aspects of sports categories, including regional and city championships, rookie achievements, awards designed for the multiple teams, and MVP/MIP awards. Shanique is no longer participating in any competitive sports; her focus is on her studies and perfecting her profession.
