CO-WINNERS: Etobicoke’s co-athletes of the month for October, twin-sisters Amanda and Julia Fejedelem, accept their citations from Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame chair Joanne Noble. Not only are the nine-year-olds Top 5 in Canada in Wushu (Chinese) martial arts, they are also ace hockey players
Twin sisters Julia and Amanda Fejedelem have lived their entire lives of nine years in Etobicoke and attend St. Benedict Catholic School. They are also ranked in the Top 5 in Canada in Wushu (Chinese) martial arts – Julia is ranked #2 and Amanda is ranked #5.
They have been competing for the Canadian national team for more than two years and have been very successful, collecting a shrine of medals.
Their competitions have taken them to Turkey, Costa Rica and recently Beijing, China where they were finalists to participate in a television program to celebrate the Chinese New Year Gala in February 2015. They also participate in track and field at school and are superstars on the ice playing hockey where they have won back-to-back championships and finished first and second in scoring and were asked by their hockey organization to be representatives in their walk of fame ceremony this month.
“These girls are so dedicated to their sports and their success seems to come easy for them as they are both natural athletes,” said Joanne Noble, Chair of the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame. “It’s nice to see some recognition for a sport that is so respected in the Chinese culture, but doesn’t get the exposure of other popular sports. are thrilled that our Athlete of the Month initiative put a big smile on the faces of Julia and Amanda and wish them luck in their upcoming competitions.”
